Cadent-ology

This week's challenge from the Diva (of I Am the Diva) asks us to experiment with the official tangle Cadent.  She says in her post that "This week is the study of 'Cadent'." The study of something is an "ology", right? Thus, Cadent-ology!

Anyway, I had fun with this challenge. I didn't come up with anything too spectacular, like a new tangleation or anything. I tried starting Cadent with triangles instead of circles or squares (see lower right corner), but it didn't turn out as I had hoped. I think more experimentation with tri-cadent is in order. I had the most cadent-fun with the upper left corner iteration, where I randomly placed circles and then connected them with the s-lines. The best part of creating this tile, though, was forming the multiple auras in the middle area. I've found that I enjoy making these auras really, really close together. It causes me to slow down and concentrate on each line forming, pigment trailing abaft the pen tip, indelibly meandering along the stark ivory surface. Like people. It's easy to think that the people brushing through your life are akin to pencils making temporary marks. But I think, like it or not, those people are more analogous to our Pigma Micron pens - leaving marks that may fade a bit, but can never be erased. That makes it even more important to choose friends wisely:

He who walks with wise men will be wise,
But the companion of fools will suffer harm.
Proverbs 13:20
and:

Do not be deceived: “Bad company corrupts good morals.”
1 Corinthians 15:33

Who's drawing on your life?

    1. That part was FUN! I was copying a little from the Diva's tile - I love how two people can do essentially the same tangle and come out with different results. Mine is a little more wispy, and hers a little more precise. No correct and incorrect, better or worse - they just are, and are interesting. Thank you for the kind comment!

  4. I love the upper right section. And you've got to be the best auraer (did I just create a new word?) ever! Great quotes, too:)

    1. Thank you! If I try to rush my auras they look terrible, but if I slow down (against my own desires, I might add) they look so much better. As for the quotes; it doesn't get any better than the Bible!

    1. Definitely! Cadent is one of the first ones I tried when I started tangling about two years ago. It's a neat one because there are so many things you can do to make it unique - which you can easily see if you look at all the other challenge entries this week.

    1. Thank you! Wait - hasn't Rick put his work in the mix a couple of times? Hold on, let me look it up...

...okay, I'm back. See these two posts on the Zentangle blog:

      http://zentangle.blogspot.com/2011/09/paradox-challenge.html

There may be others as well, but I just wanted to link these two as an example. So technically we're not the only guys to contribute to the weekly challenge. You, I and Rick will be the lone male representatives. Come on guys, give us a hand! :-)

    1. Thank you, thank you! This reminds me of "op art", a style of art that plays with the way your eyes see things. You should check out Bridget Riley for some extreme dancing art!:

Makes your eyes hurt if you look at it too long...Thank you again for the comment!
