Auraknot

I am in love with the new tangle Auraknot, so I was pleased to find that this week's challenge from the Diva over at I Am the Diva is to use Auraknot in a tangle. I attempted a step-out of this pattern when Rick and Maria challenged the Zentangle community to try their hand at it, but the actual steps are so much easier than what I came up with. It allows much more freedom, and is more relaxing. You don't have to connect the dots or pre-plan anything, you just put pen to paper and tangle. I didn't even use a string for this one, and I don't feel a string is necessary. The Auraknot becomes the string, the backbone of the tangle. Thanks Rick and Maria for what is quickly becoming one of my favorite tangles!

  1. Love your aura knot....(wonder what people think of this statement if they never heard of Zentangle)
I love the boldness of this piece, the no fear attack of pen to paper....and the unexpected softness of the tipple in the center. Tangle on.... maria

    1. Thank you Maria! It's all about those contrasts...Black and white, bold and soft, smooth and angular. :-)

  2. How stunning is this wonderfully contrasted auraknot! I love the depth and the background really enhances what you have done! I also am impressed with how the ribbon runs through the whole!

    1. Thank you! I can thank Maria for the ribbon idea from the Auraknot video - it really integrates the knot into the rest of the tangle, I think.

  3. This piece really gives me the feeling that you relaxed and let it happen - it's so "seamless" and flowing. I love the contrast of the black and white background, and your rendition of Auraknot is beautiful.

    1. With the background I went waaaaaay back to one of the first tangles, Jonqal, that I ever learned. It's a classic! Thank you so much.

  8. I'm crazy about this - this is what I wanted to do, but couldn't wrap my brain around - the auraknot on top of a background. So cool, and wonderful execution! I love the ribbons running through there, too.

    1. Thank you! I started with Auraknot, then added Jonqal. I just let the tangles lead me where they wanted to go! It's a very fun process :-)

      Tangle on!

    1. I appreciate that! I consider any Zentangle I do spontaneously, flowingly, an arrival. Even if it doesn't look "good". It's the process, and then the product.

  10. Great tile. I really like how you showcased the new tangle by tangling around it also. Very bold and striking.

    1. Thanks! It seemed rather lonely on its own - it just pleaded for me to add some of its tangle buddies!
